What is Restorative Dentistry?

Group 128

Restorative dentistry is a branch of dentistry focused on repairing or replacing damaged, decayed, or missing teeth. It involves a variety of treatments aimed at restoring the function and aesthetics of your teeth, improving your oral health, and enhancing your smile. At Brookline Smile Artists, we offer a full range of restorative services, from basic fillings to advanced procedures like dental implants, dentures, and crowns.

Our goal is to bring your smile back to its full potential, ensuring that it’s both healthy and beautiful.

Restorative Dentistry Services We Offer

At Brookline Smile Artists, we offer a variety of restorative dentistry services to address your needs:
Dentures
Dentures are a popular option for replacing missing teeth. Whether you’re missing a few teeth or need a full set, dentures help restore both the appearance and function of your mouth. We offer both partial dentures for missing teeth in specific areas and full dentures to replace an entire set of teeth. Our dentures are custom-made for a comfortable fit, helping you speak and eat with ease.
A dental crown is a custom-made cap placed over a damaged or decayed tooth to restore its size, shape, strength, and appearance. Crowns are used when a tooth is too damaged for a filling but still needs to be saved. At Brookline Smile Artists, we offer high-quality crowns made from durable materials like porcelain to ensure a natural look and feel.
Dental implants are one of the most advanced and durable options for replacing missing teeth. Implants are titanium posts surgically placed into the jawbone, acting as artificial tooth roots. Once the implant integrates with the bone, a custom-made crown is placed on top, restoring the appearance and function of your tooth. Implants are long-lasting, and they provide a stable foundation for a natural-looking smile.
Sometimes, a tooth is beyond repair due to extensive decay, infection, or injury. Tooth extractions are necessary when saving the tooth is no longer an option. At Brookline Smile Artists, we perform extractions in a safe and comfortable environment. If you require a tooth extraction, we will discuss replacement options, such as dental implants or dentures, to restore your smile.

Who Should Consider Restorative Dentistry?

Group 128

Restorative dentistry helps patients restore tooth function, comfort, and appearance after damage, decay, or tooth loss. Below are common situations where restorative dentistry in Brookline, MA, plays a critical role.

Patients with Missing Teeth

Problem: Missing teeth affect chewing, speech, bite alignment, and confidence. Gaps also allow nearby teeth to shift, leading to further oral health issues.

Solution: Dental implants and dentures replace missing teeth, restore bite stability, and improve daily function while supporting long-term oral health.

Problem: Cracked, broken, or severely decayed teeth weaken over time and increase the risk of infection or tooth loss.

Solution: Dental crowns restore strength, shape, and appearance, protecting the tooth and allowing normal chewing without discomfort.

Problem: Advanced gum disease leads to bone loss and loose teeth, often resulting in tooth loss if left untreated.

Solution: After stabilizing gum health, dental implants or restorative crowns replace missing teeth and restore oral balance.

Problem: Teeth affected by severe infection, trauma, or decay sometimes cannot be saved and must be removed.

Solution: Tooth extractions, followed by implants or dentures, prevent complications and restore function while protecting surrounding teeth.

Depending on your procedure, we’ll use advanced techniques and technology to ensure a smooth and comfortable experience. Whether it’s placing an implant or fitting a crown, we ensure the highest quality of care.

I had an incredible experience at Brookline Smile Artists! I chose this practice specifically because they specialize in treating patients with TMJ, and I couldn’t be happier with that decision. Prior to coming here, I had consistently frustrating and painful experiences at dentists who didn’t understand the challenges I faced with limited mouth opening.

Dr. Slater was truly exceptional—understanding, kind, and compassionate during all my visits. She took the time to listen to my concerns and even referred me to a great physical therapist in the area for specialized care. When I reviewed my custom mouth guard with her, she made sure it fit perfectly, adjusting it with great attention to detail to ensure maximum comfort and effectiveness. Throughout every visit, she made sure I felt comfortable and supported, which made a huge difference given my past anxieties.

If I hadn’t relocated across the country, Brookline Smile Artists would absolutely be my go-to dental practice for life. Their expertise, personalized care, and genuine compassion truly set them apart.

As someone with extensive dental history (braces, implants, veneers, etc.), I can’t recommend Dr. Gary Login's office enough! When I moved to Boston, I was trying to find a new, trustworthy dentist.

When a front veneer broke, Dr. Janna Feldman replaced it and did a phenomenal job! The color matched perfectly. She was thorough, patient, and took her time to explain the process in detail so that I was on the same page and happy with the results. Given past teeth anxiety, it’s a huge relief to have such a reliable dentist.

A bonus is that it’s conveniently located right across from the Coolidge Corner T stop on the green line.

I was referred to this practice by a friend who said everyone at this office is fantastic... she was not wrong! I am an anxious dentist-goer and everyone made me feel comfortable there. Amanda did a wonderful job with my cleaning, my teeth felt like they were glistening! Charlotte took my pictures and was easy to talk with while waiting, and Dr. Login was professional and made me feel comfortable throughout the exam. I highly recommend this dental practice, and I will definitely be a returning patient.

FAQs

Group 128
Are dental implants a long-term solution?
Dental implants serve as a durable tooth replacement option. They integrate with the jawbone, support natural chewing forces, and maintain facial structure when paired with proper oral hygiene and routine professional care.
Dental crowns often last 10 to 15 years when cared for properly. Longevity depends on material choice, bite forces, oral hygiene habits, and consistent dental check-ups to monitor wear and fit.
Dentures are custom-designed for comfort and stability. An adjustment period is expected, after which patients regain confidence while eating and speaking. Follow-up visits help refine fit and improve daily comfort.
Tooth extractions involve advanced anesthesia techniques focused on comfort. Patients feel pressure rather than pain during treatment, with mild post-procedure soreness managed through guided aftercare and professional recommendations.
Dental implant recovery occurs in stages. Initial healing takes days, while bone integration develops over several months. This process creates a stable foundation for the final restoration and long-term tooth function.
Persistent tooth pain, prolonged sensitivity to temperature, swelling near the gums, or discomfort while chewing often signal internal tooth infection requiring evaluation and possible root canal treatment.
After adjustment, dentures support most everyday foods. Starting with softer options improves comfort, followed by gradual reintroduction of firmer textures as bite coordination and confidence improve.
Dental implants require daily brushing, flossing, and routine dental visits. Consistent care protects the surrounding gum tissue and ensures implant stability, function, and appearance over time.
